Choose the appropriate power tool

Choose the appropriate power tool

Are you starting DIY work but you don't know which tools to buy? Here's how to choose the right power tools for the home.

The impact drill

For relatively small repairs, it is not necessary to immediately acquire a large fleet of tools. A hammer drill will initially do the trick. If, afterwards, you have to carry out more varied work, gradually buy other power tools. A hammer drill pierces wood and metal. Thanks to its striking mechanism, you can also drill into walls. It is advisable to purchase a two-speed drill. The first provides sufficient power for large diameter drills and for screwing large screws; the second speed allows working with small diameter drills.

The hammer drill

If your home has a lot of concrete walls, choose a small hammer drill. It is able to pass through the hardest concrete almost effortlessly. At the time of purchase, be sure to choose a hammer drill equipped with a rotation stop, in order to also have a chiseling mode.

The cordless screwdriver

For the rapid installation and removal of screws, the acquisition of a cordless screwdriver is a good investment. Cordless drills and screwdrivers are much more powerful, especially for assembling devices or assembling furniture.

The jigsaw

The jigsaw is a multi-purpose electric saw for the home. It saws wood, wood derivatives such as particle board, or plastics and metals. On the other hand, you can replace the blade with a specific tip to cut soft materials such as textiles, leather and insulation materials. Expert advice: often, power tools are sold in a case with the appropriate accessories. These offers are extremely advantageous in terms of price. Author: © Bosch SAS France
