Choose a window

Do you want to change your windows, for aesthetic reasons or to save energy? Styles, materials, choice of glazing ... follow the guide and discover some trendy models suited to all tastes.

What style ?

The materials allow all forms, with a very diverse palette of colors and finishes, whether you choose wood or aluminum. To avoid missteps, respect the style of your home and whatever the material, also think of local colors.

What opening?

The most widespread is the so-called "French" window. It opens from the inside, can have one or two leaves. It is the simplest to install and it adapts to all materials. There is also the "Italian" window, which opens from the inside in half, much appreciated for ventilation. In "English" style, opening is done by pushing the door outwards. It will be very practical if you have little space inside your accommodation. The rotary tilting models can open from the top inwards or from the bottom outwards and also pivot. The choice is wide since you will also find windows called "sash" which, as the name suggests, open from top to bottom by vertical sliding. Simpler, fixed windows that do not open and are installed only for brightness. For roof fittings, you will of course think of velux type roof windows.

What material?

Current windows are efficient, both in terms of air permeability and water tightness. It's up to you to choose models in wood, PVC or aluminum joinery, depending on the style of your interior. According to Ademe, the thermal performance of a glazed wall depends on the nature of the joinery, the performance of the glazing and the quality of the installation of the window.

What glazing?

Of course, this is an essential element to avoid heat loss. Double glazing, with its two glasses trapping an air gap, performs better than single glazing. You will also find double glazing with reinforced insulation (VIR), the new generation of panes. A transparent, low-emissivity layer strengthens the surface of the glass to prevent the cold from passing in winter and the heat in summer. Its insulating power is two to three times greater than that of conventional double glazing. It is also possible to equip the glass with a sun protection filter.
